Here in my hometown of Worcester Massachusetts there is a public access television station (WCCA TV), which, I have passed by many times but never really paid any attention to. I decided to look into it and discovered that it has a lot to offer. It is a community media center by the people and for the people; all programming is and can be produced by anyone who wishes to. It also offers a number of training programs that offer in depth knowledge about TV production, internships that in many ways put you in the driver’s seat and far as directing and producing programming goes and memberships that grant you access to the station and its resources. And you can make your own show to be broadcast on the channel or order tapes of already broadcast programming, by simply following a number of steps, which can be found on the website.
I wish I had paid attention to this marvel sooner because it offers valuable knowledge at a very reasonable cost. I was always focused on college and the big leagues, and while that is the ultimate goal, this is here now and I can start tomorrow if I am so inclined. Anything high profile I can only dream about at the moment. So those of you, who have a local public access station, take advantage of what it has to offer.
